Akki gets mad

Akshay Kumar is one of B'wood's cool customers, never really losing his temper or getting snappy. But there's only so much even a patient man will take. And it seems that Akki was pushed to the limit recently.

What happened was that Akshay and wife Twinkle were leaving a hotel in Mumbai after dinner, and just as they were getting into their car, a man started taking their pictures with his mobile. This, of course, without asking for permission to start clicking. Akshay asked the man to stop as Twinkle wasn't happy about this, but there was no reasoning with the snapper, who kept clicking. And that's when Akki lost it.

One story doing the rounds is that Akshay took the man's phone and smashed it. Akki's inner circle denies this, saying that he just verbally made it clear that he doesnt like his pictures being taken without his permission.

Whatever the case may be, we're sure to keep this in mind before going photog on Akshay! No one wants him unleashing khiladi action their way!

The first wives' club

Sussanne Roshan played peacemaker between Gauri and Twinkle at a party on Friday

At Rock On!! director Abhishek Kapoor's birthday (August 6) party last week, Sussanne (Hrithik) Roshan played peacemaker between star wives Gauri and Twinkle.

Says an eyewitness at Abhishek aka Gattu's party, "Twinkle was sitting in a corner with a group of friends that included Bobby Deol's wife Tanya. Suzy (as her friends call her) and Gauri were on the dance floor."

Mrs Roshan has become part of  Mrs Khan's girl gang in the last one year and their husbands too have become friends. Meanwhile, the friction between King Khan and Khiladi Kumar is legendary. The line between friends, filmmakers and cliques are clearly marked and the line is never crossed. Enter do-gooder Sussanne.

When Mrs Roshan, who has been friends with Twinkle for years spotted her across the room, she rushed to greet her and drag her to meet SRK's biwi. Though Gauri and Tina are both close to industrialist Sunny Dewan's wife Anu, they've maintained an icy distance from each other.

The source adds, "However Sussanne wants her two fav gal pals to bond and decided to do her bit to make this possible. Initially, there was an awkward silence between Mrs K and Mrs K, but by the end of the evening, they were chatting warmly."

Much later, Akki's biwi joined her friends and then exited the party. Gauri remained behind with Bhavna (Chunky) Pandey and left for home at 4 am. But this doesn't mean T and G are the new BFFs in town.

An insider explains, "The rivalry between their husbands will ensure that never happens. Also fashion mags often compare them to each other, so there is some weird competition going on between them. But as long as they can manage to be cordial with each other, it will make common friends happy so they don't have to choose and prove their loyalty."

Other guests at the party included Dino Morea-Nandita Mahtani and Arjun Rampal-Mehr Jessia.

Akshay, Twinkle to trek in Jammu

Akshay Kumar has great plans as to what he can do after his latest film Khatta Meetha releases. And no, it's not signing on another film. Akshay has decided that he and wife Twinkle will go trekking and biking in the remote areas of Jammu. Akshay got the idea when he recently visited the place to shoot a song for Action Replayy. He was impressed with the unspoilt beauty of the place and the soothing effect it had on him. He realised that many places in Jammu were accessible only by two wheelers or on foot, so he has decided to go on this trip with his wife. The two will be pitching their tents wherever they are for the night during their adventure.

Akshay has no worries about crowds mobbing him on the way, especially as he will be without his security cordon. He feels that after dealing with crowds of more than 15,000 people during the promotion of Khatta Meetha, he will be able to prevent being accosted during his travels.

So will Akshay write his motorcycle diaries? That is yet to be seen.

“Akshay deserves a national award”

His mom-in-law Dimple Kapadia thinks he should get it for being an all-rounder!

Veteran actress Dimple Kapadia is certain that her son-in-law, actor Akshay Kumar, who has already been conferred a Padma Shri award, deserves a national award too because she believes that he is a great entertainer.

"I think he (Akshay Kumar) deserves a national award. Nor for any movie as such but he has really grown as an actor and he is excellent in comedy beside that he is an allrounder, and most importantly he is a great entertainer," she told reporters at a cafe where she was promoting her upcoming film ‘Tum Milo Toh Sahi’.

Dimple maintains that getting awards is a matter of luck.

"Honestly speaking, awards are just luck. Some give brilliant performances but they never get awarded and someone else gets it. I don't think an award is really important. Someone can perform far more brilliantly than you but you get the award, so it's not a big deal," she said.

Dimple is sharing screen space with Akshay in director Nikhil Advani's ‘Patiala House’ where he is again playing the role of a Sardar after Anees Bazmee's ‘Singh is Kinng’ (2008).

Sixteen long years after ‘Krantiveer’ in 1994, Dimple is paired opposite actor Nana Patekar in Kabir Sadanand's ‘Tum Milo Toh Sahi’ where they play lovers in their 50s.

"It was a fantastic experience again working with Nana Patekar. We share a student-teacher relationship where I am a student. I learnt a lot from him. With every film he has given me something," said Dimple.

"The climax of the film is completely dedicated to him and Kabir. The way they made me see it and the way they made me do it... it's completely their baby. I just went and did what they wanted me to do. It's great to get such a co-star and that's what Nana is. He gives you a lot," she added

Releasing Friday, ‘Tum Milo Toh Sahi’ weaves together lives of three couples who connect with one another through a series of touching and funny moments. Dimple essays a Parsi woman running an old Irani cafe in the film.

Akki's Family album

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle are on the cover of the latest issue of L'Officiel India. Shooting together after nine years and the first time as a couple, the entire experience was one that neither of them would ever forget.

"This shoot will be kept in our family album for sure and that's why it's even more special for both of us," says Akshay who confesses that this was possibly one of the most enjoyable shoots he has done.

Dressed in Dior's Fall-Winter '09 collection during the shoot in London, the couple laughed, smiled and allowed a glimpse into their private world.

Akshay comes home to celebrate his birthday

Wife Twinkle has planned a quiet party

Akshay Kumar, who turned 42 today (Sept 9), completed his shooting in Italy before schedule to be with his family here on his birthday.

"Akshay wanted to ring in his birthday with his family. He doesn't want to miss this at any cost," said a source close to the actor who was shooting in Italy for Sajid Khan's "House Full".

"Akshay was missing them very much while shooting in Italy. Sajid understood Akshay's feelings and saw to it that the shooting gets wrapped up in advance so that Akshay can fly down to Mumbai and celebrate his birthday with his family," the source added.

Meanwhile, his wife Twinkle has planned a quiet party for family and close friends.

Akshay is very excited about this birthday as it is on 09.09.09. The actor considers 9 to be his lucky number.

“Today's date comes once in a lifetime and fortunately for me, my birthday is also today. I couldn't wish for a better birthday,” he has said.

While the past two years have been extremely lucky for Akshay, in 2009 he had to face setbacks in "Chandni Chowk To China" and "8X10 Tasveer" - both the films were rejected by audiences. But he managed to strike back with "Kambakkht Ishq".

His forthcoming films include Anthony D'Souza's "Blue", Priyadarshan's "De Dana Dan" and Vipul Shah's "Action Replay".

Twinkle to dress Akshay on screen

She’s working on his look in ‘Action Replay’

Twinkle Khanna always has a major role to play as far as husband Akshay Kumar’s dressing and styling are concerned. But that has been mainly off screen, with Twinkle otherwise being busy with her career as an interior designer.

But now she will be making her on screen presence felt with Vipul Shah’s “Action Replay”. She is styling Akshay’s look in the film as well as designing some costumes for the movie.

“Action Replay” is based on the Hollywood film “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, starring Brad Pitt, and also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Twinkle liked the concept of the movie and requested director Vipul Shah to let her design for the film.

SRK rocks Karan's party

Karan Johar’s birthday bash at a hotel in central Mumbai is the talk of the town.

Not only did Karan manage to bring in the famous — Shah Rukh Khan with Gauri, Abhishek Bachchan with Aishwarya, Hrithik Roshan with Sussanne, Saif Ali Khan with Kareena Kapoor, Twinkle Khanna (minus Akshay), Ranbir Kapoor with Deepika Padukone, Imran Khan with Avantika Malik and the powerful — Tina Ambani and Parmeshwar Godrej amongst a bevy of other beauties and socialities, he also managed to make sure everyone at his party had a great time.

A guest says, “There was a lot of bonding happening; and rightly so. After all Karan’s party was the last major do for the summer of 2009. Next, he and Shah Rukh leave for the US to shoot My Name Is Khan. They’ll be gone for two months. That means Bollywood’s most influential folks will not get a chance to boogie-woogie and bond till August.

Akshay hurt by ruckus over unbuttoning episode

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar is miffed with Anil Naik, who filed a case against him and his wife Twinkle for obscene behaviour in public during the recent Lakme India Fashion Week (LIFW). The actor feels Naik tries to seek publicity by harassing celebrities like him, Milind Soman and Mamta Kulkarni, says a close friend.

"Akshay is very hurt by the whole episode especially since the man behind the campaign had earlier harassed a very dear co-star Mamta Kulkarni. This man Anil Naik had earlier filed similar obscenity complaints against Milind Soman and Madhu Spare. He apparently thrives on getting publicity from seeking out celebrities from the entertainment world and harassing them," a close friend of the actor told IANS.

During the LIFW in early April, Akshay had made his wife unbutton his jeans while walking the ramp for Levi’s (pictured above). Akshay's unbuttoning act had kicked up a storm with some private individuals lodging police complaints, accusing Akshay of immoral and indecent behaviour in public.

On Monday morning when Akshay returned from Singapore after shooting for Priyadarshan's "Dan Dana Dan", he was quickly taken to the police station, arrested and released on bail.

"When he reached Mumbai, press persons called to ask if he had been captured, as though he was a dangerous fugitive. But what had he done? Opened one button of his jeans, and that too by his wife," said the friend.

After being released Akshay drove off to Karjat to join Aishwarya Rai for the shooting of Vipul Shah's "Instant Replay".

Bollywood backs Akshay

Akshay Kumar’s sexy catwalk gimmick at the Lakme Fashion Week may have got him arrested, but the industry is standing four square behind the star

Does being a celebrity get you into trouble where others might escape?

That's what Bollywood thinks firmly. Akshay Kumar was booked, and then released, for having his wife Twinkle unbutton the top of his Levi's. Nothing was seen, no harm done. But a case for obscenity was filed and Twinkle was arrested and charged, and then Akshay also was.

"It's a small matter and one should overlook it," said Anees Bazmi. Bazmi directed Akshay in his two biggest hits, Singh is Kinng and Welcome. He feels that there was nothing in the act that merited someone feeling offended.

"This is the price for being famous," said Sonu Sood, a friend of Akshay's, "controversy follows you if you are an actor." He said the issue was "totally blown out of proportion."

Asked for a comment, a family member of Salman Khan's said that the star had nothing to say on this, but in general agreed that actors were judged differently.

Marc Robinson, the choreograoher for the Tarun Tahiliani Levi's show, the event where the 'offending' act happened, offered sympathy but had no comment: "I can't say anything about this because I was the producer of the show."

Akshay himself has refused to apologise for the act and said that it was spontaneous and not vulgar.

The incident itself appeared to have been harmless when shown on TV and in newspaper photographs. Akshay sashayed down the ramp and then asked his wife to undo the top button of his jeans, which she smilingly did.

A social worker then filed a case claiming the act was obscene.

No, I wasn’t arrested: Akshay

As filmi as it may sound, Akshay Kumar says he hadn’t gone to the Vakola police station in Mumbai on Monday to ‘surrender’.

A not-so-amused Akshay, who’s back in Mumbai after a month and a half of shooting abroad, says, “No, I wasn’t arrested. On returning to Mumbai, I thought I’d clear up this mess that was created while I was away. So, I personally went to the police station to finish some paperwork, wish them all a good morning and leave with my dignity intact. I wasn’t captured, I didn’t surrender, there was nothing heroic about it (unlike what people think). It was a simple formal meeting to show that no matter how ridiculous the cause may be, one must be a gentleman and clear one’s name. That’s all that happened on Monday. There were no handcuffs, just handshakes.”

But what does he make of the whole unbuttoning episode? “None of this was necessary. Those who were genuinely offended by my wife unbuttoning the top button of my jeans, shouldn’t own or watch a TV. If something as small as that could cause them so much heartache, they surely must be in constant fear of changing the channel – what if a topless shot of an actor or something springs up on screen? Such incidents only show our people in a poor light,” he retorts.

Akshay Kumar arrested and released on bail

It was not a happy homecoming for Akshay Kumar who was returning home after nearly a month of staying abroad. Akki, who arrived in Mumbai late last night, was arrested by cops at the Vakola police station early today morning. He was, however, subsequently released on bail.

It may be recalled that the actor was embroiled in a huge controversy when his wife Twinkle Khanna unbuttoned his jeans at the recently held Lakme India Fashion Week. An activist Anil Nair had taken offence and filed a case against the couple.

Akshay was arrested for the same case early today morning. However, since his case was a bailable one he was sanctioned bail. Earlier even his wife Twinkle was arrested and released on bail. One hopes this is the last of all miseries for Akki and Twinkle.

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle miss son Aarav while shooting in Singapore

Akshay Kumar and wife Twinkle, who are currently in Singapore, are missing their son Aarav. Reason? The seven-year-old could not accompany his mom and his dad, who is shooting for Priyadarshan's De Dhana Dhan. Aarav is staying with his daadi here.

Explains Akki, "Aarav had to be in Mumbai because of school. I don't want him to miss his studies even for a day. I want him to excel at everything from studies to sports."

Akshay does miss his son a lot, though. "But I want him to learn to be self-sufficient early in his life."
Akki's kid is quickly becoming a karate champion. But he isn't learning the art from his dad, who's a martial arts expert himself. Akshay has hired a karate guru for Aarav.

Explains the actor, "It's a known fact that children are shy and reluctant to learn any skill from their own parents. That's why you have even renowned classical musicians sending their own children to another guru rather than train the next generation themselves. Aarav is learning from a professional guru, and is quickly becoming a champ."

The proud father has himself been learning a new skill in Singapore. "I picked up cable skiing, a very tough water sports here in Singapore. The way to survive and be the fittest among the competition is to keep learning all the time. That's what I want my son to understand."

As he is shooting mostly in the nights, Akshay spends the day playing dutiful husband to Twinkle taking her shopping to the swankiest of malls of Singapore.

"I myself have been away from home for two months now," says Akshay. "I do miss home but it's good to work away from Mumbai as more work gets done. In 15 days, we've covered a month's work in Singapore."
