Abhishek hits back at insult

Abhishek Bachchan has hit back at ad-man Prahlad Kakkar's comment that the actor should be in the Guinness Book of World Records for standing strong despite delivering 17 flops.

"I love Prahlad Kakkar, he should be a stand-up comic not an ad-filmmaker. Maybe then someone will take him seriously! This coming from a man who makes commercials with his own son," Abhishek posted on his Twitter page.

Kakkar, who made Abhishek's wife Aishwarya Rai famous as Sanju in a 1993 TV commercial for Pepsi, took a jibe on Abhishek at the Mumbai Film Festival.

Taking a potshot at Abhishek, the adman said: "Abhishek Bachchan has 17 flops in a row and is still going strong. He is unique and should be in the Guinness Book of Records."

In return, Abhishek commented: "Oh ya, Prahlad, I'm already in the Guinness Book of World Records and a very proud son. I hope you give your sons an opportunity to say the same someday."

In February 2009, Abhishek broke the Guinness' world record for maximum public appearances in 12 hours while promoting Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 'Delhi 6'.

Bollywood's got Saturday Night Fever

Here's what happened when Aamir, Ash, and Abhishek met up with John Travolta

Hollywood star John Travolta was honoured at the GQ Men of the Year awards event along with Aamir Khan, Arjun Rampal and other stars. And he totally floored the B'wood biggies.

The 56-year-old actor, known for his hits 'Saturday Night Fever', 'Grease' and 'Pulp Fiction', was given the GQ Legend of the Year award late yesterday (September 26), a day after the star flew down to India in his private jet with his daughter Ella.

While Aamir was awarded the GQ Cinematic Icon of the Year, Arjun won the GQ Most Stylish Person trophy.

Aamir was so excited that John was attending the event that the actor made it a point to be there too.

"I am a big fan of John Travolta. I have seen a lot of his films. When I heard that he has come for this function, I made it a point to attend it. I'm also wearing a suit because of that," Aamir, who was dressed formally in a black suit and bow tie, said.

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai (who won the Ultimate GQ Man and Excellence awards) met up with the star too. Abhishek posted on his Twitter page, "Just back from the GQ man of the year awards. Wonderful evening. Met 1 of my childhood favs John travolta. Very sweet and humble."

And Big B tweeted about it too, writing about the family's Hollywood interaction, "Abhishek and Aishwarya win GQ awards ..meet John Travolta ..found him humble and sweet .."

John, who is on a two-day visit to India, launched a new model of Breitling watches too. His wife Kelly Preston has not accompanied him as she is pregnant with their twins.

Meanwhile, the actor denied the news that he'd be performing with Akshay Kumar. He is likely to fly out of Mumbai today (September 27).

Is Aishwarya mad at Katrina?

Rumour is Aishwarya Rai isn't too happy with Katrina Kaif working with hubby Abhishek Bachchan in the 'Dostana' sequel. It seems that the battle lines were drawn after Katrina refused the Hindi remake of 'The Italian Job', which stars Abhishek. Kat said she was opting out of the Abbas Mastan directed movie because of date problems. But apparently, she didn't want to work with Abishek after 'Raavan' flopped.

It seems Ash was annoyed that Katrina refused 'The Italian Job' remake, mentioning that she wouldn't have much to do in an Abhishek movie. So now the buzz is that Ash would rather not have Abhishek work with Kat in 'Dostana 2'.

The 'Dostana' sequel has already been delayed to 2011, wonder how this will affect the movie.

Why is Aishwarya fuming?

A little birdie tells us that after the rumour that Katrina Kaif walked out of The Italian Job because she didn't want to be paired with Abhishek Bachchan reached Jalsa, Aishwarya Rai has been fuming. It is learnt that she has told her hubby he should do the same and not work with her in Dostana 2.

A source reveals, "Ash is happy that the project has been postponed. Now that Kat's dates have gone for a toss with the film not taking off until mid 2011, Ash is hoping that some one else might step in." We hope it is Ash herself. After all she was the first choice for the original.

Abhishek replacing Saif in 'Race 2'

Buzz is that Saif Ali Khan has opted out of Ramesh Taurani's Race 2. The Chhote Nawab has no dates for the film, with his calendar blocked with Vishal Bhardwaj and Kunal Kohli's next.

Since the Race sequel is still in pre-production stages, Saif thought it would be wise to opt out at an early stage. Chances are that Abhishek Bachchan might step into his shoes. Uh-oh, does this mean now Bebo won't be a part of the film?

Ash-Abhi skip ‘Raavan’ screening in Venice

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan won't be able to attend the screening of their film ‘Raavan’ at the upcoming 67th Venice Film Festival, due to prior commitments with their brand endorsements.

‘Raavanan’ and ‘Raavan’ - the Tamil and the Hindi versions of the Mani Ratnam film - and Anurag Kashyap's ‘That Girl In Yellow Boots’ will be screened at the festival, starting September 1.

"Aishwarya and Abhishek are not going for the Venice Film Festival as reported in some media outlets. The festival falls on the same dates on which they have previously committed. Aishwarya is going for an event for Longines (as she is the brand ambassador), while Abhishek will be busy with a shoot for Omega in Italy," said a source close to the actors.

"There are other film festivals too - Doha and Pusan - where Abhishek and Aishwarya are being invited, to showcase their film or even for individual honours. But the duo will decide which ones to attend according to their schedules," added the source.

Ash-Abhi ready for a vacation

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are always trying to spend time together, despite their busy schedules. Earlier this year Ash accompanied Abhishek when he was shooting for 'Game' in Greece, and they got to spend time together promoting 'Raavan' too. But Abhishek still complained that he didn't get enough time with his wife. Now, to make up for that, it seems that Ash has planned a holiday in London while Abh is shooting there for 'Dostana 2'.

Apparently, Ash wants to get a lot of quality time with Abhi in the city before they both get busy with work again. Aishwarya has a couple of big releases coming up this year, including Vipul Shah's 'Action Replayy' and the Tamil movie 'Endhiran', and Abhishek will be busy shooting other schedules of 'Dostana 2'

Abhishek welcomes his 'sautan'

Everyone knows about Abhishek Bachchan's 'Dostana' with John Abraham, which was pretty much a first for Bollywood. What we've just found out is that in real-life Abhishek's a great pal of John's girlfriend Bipasha, and that they go back a real long way.

Bipasha joined Twitter today (July 4), and Abhishek posted on his page, "The first time i ever sat in front of a camera was with her. Please welcome my sautan bipasha.... fyi John still likes me more! haha"

He added, "To clarify, my first ever screen test was with Bipasha. but that film never got made. She's been a friend since."

Bipasha replied to Abhi, "Thank u for a warm welcome my dear sautan, and the cutest and the naughtiest costar of mine. love and hugs! John likes me the most and u r his only male lover. Ha ha ha!"

More of Abhi and John when 'Dostana 2' gets ready. Meanwhile, these two 'sautans' look like they're getting along fine!

"Ash is very supportive, loves me the way I am"

Abhishek says that's the reason he hasn't changed after marriage

When spotted together it is evident that they are very much in love - and Abhishek Bachchan has no qualms in saying that his wife and actress Aishwarya Rai is very supportive and encouraging.

"Aishwarya is very supportive and encouraging. She is a very chilled out person and doesn't take things to heart," Abhishek said.

"People ask me if I changed after marriage. But I just say 'Why should I change?' Aishwarya loves me the way I am and married me for the way I am. Then why should I change at all?" he added.

Abhishek and Aishwarya announced their engagement Jan 14, 2007 and the couple tied the knot April 20 that year. The wedding took place in a private ceremony at the Bachchan residence Prateeksha in Juhu, Mumbai, but made headlines everywhere.

It was rumoured that Aishwarya would leave her acting career after marriage, owing to the popular belief that married actresses don't do well in the industry.

But the 36-year-old actress squashed all rumours and continued to be a part of the film industry.

Even her husband Abhishek, 34, feels proud that his wife was able to break the age-old notion. "I feel great about Aishwarya's achievements, I'm very proud of her. Whatever adulation she has got, she truly deserves it," he said.

"I'm happy that she broke the notion that women can't work after marriage. Why are we so regressive in our thinking? If she wants to work, her audience wants to see her, what is people's problem? I as a husband am very happy that she is doing so well. I think she is doing better work now," Abhishek said.

The couple has done many films together before and after their marriage. These include 'Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke', 'Kuch Naa Kaho', 'Umrao Jaan', 'Dhoom 2', 'Guru' and the recently released 'Raavan'.

Is Abhishek being offered Rs 7 crores?

Rumour is that's his fee for a new film, even after 'Raavan' flopped

'Raavan' hasn't dazzled at the box office but that doesn't seem to have affected Abhishek Bachchan's stock in Bollywood. Apparently he is being offered Rs 7 crores to star in a new movie directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by a major company.

What's the USP of the movie? Well, not USP exactly but it is supposed to be bringing the Bachchan clan - Abhi, Ash and Big B - together. Earlier, the family all starred in Ram Gopal Varma's 'Sarkar Raj'.

So is Junior Bachchan really going to be making all that money for one movie? No confirmations so far (and we might never have them because star fees are quite hush-hush) but if it's true, good going Abhi!

Aishwarya joins weekly Bachchan ritual

Amitabh Bachchan's home Jalsa in Mumbai is one of the city's most famous landmarks. Fans crowd around the house pretty much everyday but every Sunday in particular, it's a special kind of gathering. As Big himself said on his Twitter page, "Every Sunday from 1982 of my accident in 'Coolie' to this day non stop, the crowds and fans and well wishers are here."

Big B who had just flown back to Mumbai from London yesterday (June 27) added, "Coming in to Jalsa to meet Sunday crowds... but getting in is also a huge exercise. More crowds and more affection ..!! 28 years without break, every Sunday. Sunday crowds ... have no words for this attention!!"

Check out the crowds in this picture and you'll know just what the Bachchans are dealing with. But they seem to appreciate the love all the way. Big B added, "Abhi and Ash join me at the gate ... will never be able to repay this love."

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan feature in July issue of Vogue

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
The fashionable couple, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan may not have been successful in winning the audience's heart with their latest movie, but when it comes to style, the two always manage to make a statement. And finally, this 'it' couple of Bollywood will be seen on the cover of the July issue of Vogue.

Needles to say that they are looking a million bucks! As is seen on the cover, Abhi has donned jackets teamed with tees while Aishwarya's dresses are simply short yet classy. This surely is yet another classy cover by Vogue.

Raavan screening resumes in Sri Lanka

The screening of Mani Ratnam's Raavan has resumed in eastern Sri Lanka despite threats by an unidentified group demanding the boycott of the bilingual film, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai.

A cinema hall planning to screen Raavan was torched last week by the group, which is protesting Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya and director Ratnam's decision to stay away from the IIFA awards held in Colombo after South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce called for a boycott of the event.

But the National Film Corporation here said theatres in Batticaloa resumed screening Raavan despite the warning by the group, which has asked the theatre owners not to screen films produced in Tamil Nadu in a move to hit back at Indian film stars who boycotted the IIFA awards ceremony in Colombo.

The show was stopped after a giant screen at the Shanthi Cinema in Batticaloa was torched a day before the Tamil version of Raavan was to be shown.

The group had sent hand bills to cinema owners, saying that the boycott of the IIFA event by Indian artistes had brought disrepute to Sri Lanka and therefore retaliation was just and appropriate.

However, a film corporation official said necessary precautions have been taken to prevent a repetition of such incidents, the Daily Mirror reported today.

"The group, which threatened the cinema owners in Batticaloa, has been arrested after we intervened in the matter," the Film Corporation official said.

"When the incident occurred, I informed the Kathankudi police (in Batticaloa) and Film Corporation about what happened," the manager Kandasamy Murugesu said.

Amitabh Bachchan, son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya, had given the glitzy event a miss, citing work commitments. The Bachchan family's decision to skip the event had raised many eyebrows as the mega star is the ambassador for IIFA.

The event was boycotted by the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce as a mark of protest against the alleged mistreatment of Tamils in Sri Lanka.

The film industry in the state of Tamil Nadu, which shares close cultural and religious links with the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka, stayed away from the event with superstars Kamal Haasan, Rajnikanth and Ratnam also giving it a miss.

Aishwarya Rai & Abhishek Bachchan: Supper at Cipriani

Aishwarya Rai leaves Cipriani restaurant in London on Sunday (June 20) after enjoying dinner with her husband, Abhishek Bachchan.

The 36-year-old actress held hands with her hubby as the two exited the restaurant together.

Rumor has it that Aishwarya will be starring as a World War II spy in the upcoming film The Spy Princess.

Last week, Aishwarya and Abhishek hit the red carpet together at the premiere of their new film together, Raavan.

Did Abhishek lie about ‘Raavan’ dive?

A former diving champion claims that he, not the star, performed the dangerous stunt

The ‘Raavan’ controversies keep coming. First, Amitabh Bachchan criticised the editing in the movie, blaming it for Abhishek’s inconsistent performance. And now there’s talk that one of the daredevil stunts in the movie that Abhishek said he performed, was in fact done by someone else.

It seems that M S Balram, a former national diving champion, has claimed that the fantastic diving off a cliff scene in ‘Raavan’ was performed by him and not Abhishek. The scene starts off the movie, and was also highlighted in the promos. Besides, Abhishek spoke in many interviews about how he did the scene even though the movie’s insurers refused to cover him, the star, doing such a dangerous stunt.

Balram said that he had a lot of respect for Abhishek Bachchan and Mani Ratnam, and that he did not want to create a controversy but that he was proud of the stunt he did.
Team ‘Raavan’, including Abhishek Bachchan and Mani Ratnam, have not responded to Balram’s claim as yet.
